Mondi launches 35% PCR mono-PP flow-wrap for recyclable wet wipes packaging

 

 

Mondi has introduced re/loop FlowWrap, a mono-material polypropylene packaging structure containing 35% post-consumer recycled content, for wet wipes used in home and personal care applications.

 

 

The new form-fill-and-seal material is intended to replace conventional multi-material laminate structures that can be difficult to recycle. Mondi said the solution was developed in line with CEFLEX Design for a Circular Economy guidelines and is designed for recycling through established polypropylene streams where suitable collection and recycling infrastructure is available.

 

 

The structure combines recycled content with the sealing, barrier and machinability requirements of moisture-sensitive wet wipes. According to Mondi, internal testing and customer trials demonstrated performance comparable with virgin polymer-based alternatives, including reliable sealing and product protection.

 

 

The material was also tested on IMA Ilapak equipment to assess its suitability for commercial packaging operations. The trials evaluated runnability at production speeds and compatibility with existing form-fill-and-seal lines, an important consideration for manufacturers seeking to introduce recycled-content materials without major machinery modifications.

 

 

The development responds to regulatory and customer pressure to improve the recyclability of flexible packaging and increase the use of recycled plastics. It also addresses upcoming requirements under the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which will introduce minimum post-consumer recycled-content levels for certain plastic packaging categories from 2030.

 

 

Mondi presented the solution with IMA Ilapak at INDEX 2026, the nonwovens industry exhibition in Geneva. The launch extends the company’s re/loop portfolio and targets a packaging application where material changes must retain moisture protection, seal integrity and high-speed processing performance.

 

 

The pack’s recyclability will ultimately depend on the availability of appropriate local collection, sorting and polypropylene recycling infrastructure.
